Legislative reform has opened Mexico to foreign investment, particularly in the energy sector. With opportunities also come risks, and doing business in Mexico remains challenging. We have been advising clients on growing, strengthening and defending their business in the country for decades.
We are at the forefront of developments in Mexico, and are currently acting on what will be one of the largest project financings in Mexico under the new energy reforms.
Our Mexico group forms part of our wider Latin America practice and is made up of both native and fluent Spanish speakers, including many in our New York and Washington DC offices.
Our experience extends across all practices (sectors and disciplines) but with a particular focus on corporate and project transactions, global investigations, regulatory – including anti-bribery and corruption risk – energy and natural resources, infrastructure and transport, and dispute resolution. Our transactional teams work closely with our global investigations and leading international arbitration groups from the outset to ensure the best possible structure for a matter and investment protection.

Client successes
Advising América Móvil in its ICSID additional facility arbitration against Colombia under the Mexico-Colombia free trade agreement, arising from measures taken against its subsidiary, Comcel, the largest telecommunications provider in the country.
Advising the lenders on the $1.5bn project financing of the design, construction, operation and maintenance of an anhydrous ammonia plant in Mexico, the largest in Latin America. This is one of the first project financings under Mexico's energy reforms.
Representing AB InBev on its $20.1bn acquisition of Mexican brewer Grupo Modelo.
Assisting Canadian pension funds Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan and Public Sector Pension Investment Board to acquire a stake in a portfolio of renewable energy projects from Banco Santander in Mexico, Brazil and Uruguay.
Acting for the Inter-American Development Bank on the Gasoducto Bajanorte gas pipeline project, which involved two natural gas pipelines between Mexico and the US.
